SASSETA Training

As per the Government Gazette notice 1451 of 2009 published on 30th October, 2009, the Honourable Minister of Police hinted and advised the Private Security Industry and its stakeholders on intended changes regarding the minimum training standards, instructions and qualifications for the different categories or classes of security services in the Private Security Sector.

The purpose of the above changes was to promote the competence and skills of Security Service Providers and prospective Security Service users and also enhance the vision and mission of the private Security Regulatory Act, the Skills Development Act, the South African Qualifications Authority Act, the National Qualifications Framework Act and any other law enhancing the quality of education and training in the Private Security Industry.

The changes above all things seek to give a formal career path in the Security Industry just like any other trade or practices that have an aligned qualification.

The changes above all things seek to give a formal career path in the Security Industry just like any other trade or practices that have an aligned qualification.  The PSIRA Grades, have now been re-designed in terms of the content and SAQA registered and quality assured by SASSETA.  Security Officers can now formalized their qualifications to any level of the choice provided the level is on the National Qualification Framework (NQF).

All qualifications are now formally registered and given unique identification numbers as follow:

National Certificate:

GSP – General Security Practices ID: 58577 NQF level 3

Further Education and Training Certificate

Specialist Security Practices ID: 57713 NQF levels 4

Skills Program 1
(Patrol Security Officer)

Skills Program 2
(Access Control Security Officer)

Skills Program 3
(Asset and Reaction Security Officer)

Skills Program 4
(Security Supervision)

Skills Program 5
(Security Management)

With the new alignments, the learner obtains a qualification in General Security Practices pegged at NQF Level 3 which will enable him/her to perform the under listed functions either as a Patrol Security Officer, Access Control Officer or Asset Protection Officer.

This prepares the Security Officer or Learner for a formal career direction into Policing, Traffic Policing, and Correctional Services, Legal and Para-legal services or the National Intelligence unlike the PSIRA compliance certificate that enables you only to work in the Private Security Industry.

The most astonishing part of the new curriculum is that, it is recognized nationally/internationally through SAQA unlike the PSIRA certification which is only recognized locally and domesticated to PSIRA service providers.

SASSETA National Key Point Training

The National Key Point a situation that exists as a result of the establishment of measures for protection of information, personnel and property against hostile persons, influences and actions on strategic National Reserves.

Although it is the responsibility of the South African Police Service (SAPS) to maintain law and order and to investigate and combat crime, the Private Sector is also responsible for protecting areas of economic importance and hence the revision of National Key Points.

Learners who go through this qualification will amass the knowledge of discharging their duties and functions under the framework of the law by knowing the duties and functions of a National Key Point Officer and the code of conduct for Security Officers in terms of section 19 and 20 of the Security Officers Act- Act 92 of 1987, searching techniques, mode of arrest and effecting arrest, access and egress control and many more in terms of:

Full Compliance Training

Refresher Training

Please note that the old National Key Point curriculum was scrapped with SAQA which was an aligned curriculum which came into effect on 1st January 2010 and by this, all forms of training done based on the old curriculum will not be recognized and services providers must ensure their training provider is compliant with the new curriculum.

SASSETA Peace Officer & Traffic Law Enforcement

This training programme of Cross Border Road Traffic Law Enforcement has been designed and developed with the necessary skills and technical know-how in the industry. The movement of people and goods between South Africa and its neighbouring countries has increased in recent years tremendously.  The formation of the Southern Africa Development Community –SADC has necessitated the signing of series of bilateral agreements between South Africa and the rest of the SADC regions.

The study units and modules enshrined in this material reflect the need to improve the unimpeded flow of goods and services and people within the SADC region. This material is aimed at equipping officers with the necessary skills and competence in providing coordinated provisions, regulations, facilitations and General Law enforcement with regards to Cross-border road transport.

The purpose of this learning is that learners are capable of understanding the relevant sections and regulations contained in the criminal procedure legislation pertaining to peace officers.

The unit standard will enable learners to apply the applicable legislation by enforcing the provisions of the legislation, teaching the public and leading by example. This unit standard also allows for transformation of the status of a peace officer and a traffic warden, as learners become models for other learners. This attracts quality people and allows for the aspirations of people to be part of the authorized officers. This unit standard caters for both peace officer and traffic warden and includes the bylaws of the specific organization or authority.

AFTER THE TRAINING LEARNERS WILL BE ABLE TO:

Explain the meaning of terms and phrases used in the legislation.

Explain the duties and responsibilities of peace officers.

Explain the procedure for search and seizure.

Demonstrate an understanding of the relevant aspects of Criminal Law.

Explain the rules pertaining to giving evidence.

Please note that the old National Key Point curriculum was scrapped with SAQA which was an aligned curriculum which came into effect on 1st January 2010 and by this, all forms of training done based on the old curriculum will not be recognized and services providers must ensure their training provider is compliant with the new curriculum.

Planning for major events is not optional if there is any hope or desire for a successful event. There is no substitute for a planning process which involves, in a meaningful way, all the stakeholders would like.

How one defines “success” may vary from community to community. Planning helps define the unique elements by which your community will measure “success.” These expectations must be clearly defined and made known if you have any hope of positive response.” The Events security programme is designed to meet the generic security outcomes of all forms of events, being it social, sporting activities, religious, political or even cultural.
